Disaster Medicine - in the World and Here at Home
If a crisis or war occurs. How does our healthcare cope with a war, a disaster, the next pandemic? And how do we distinguish what we really need to worry about from the myths and fears that easily take over?
Few can answer this with the same authority as Johan von Schreeb. As a surgeon and professor of global disaster medicine at Karolinska Institutet, and with long experience from Doctors Without Borders, he has been present in some of the most severe disasters and conflicts of our time, from Ukraine to Lebanon. He has seen what can be achieved with incredibly limited resources, but also how much warmth and humanity often exists amidst the chaos.
What can we learn from the places in the world where the unthinkable has already happened? A conversation about resilience, about knowledge and experience as our strongest preparedness, and about the human ability to help and grow amidst the toughest circumstances.
